Poland K2 Tank - Poland is set to buy 48 FA-50 light fighter jets and at least 180 K2 Black Panther tanks from South Korea.

WPolityce reported on a related statement by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Polish Government, Minister of National Defense Mariusz Blaszczak.

Negotiations regarding the purchase of FA-50 are also reported to have reached the final stage. The Polish Air Force plans to purchase three squadrons of these light fighters.

"We are interested in purchasing three squadrons, i.e. 48 aircraft. The first aircraft should be delivered to Poland next year. We are completing negotiations on this matter, we are close to completion. In general, this will be a jump in the combat capability of our army," said the minister. .

In May, at meetings in Seoul, Minister Blaszczak spoke about strengthening the defense capability of the Polish Army in partnership with South Korean arms companies.

The K2 Black Panther is South Korea's main battle tank. The combat vehicle was developed by South Korea's Defense Development Agency and Hyundai Rotem. The tank is armed with a 120mm smoothbore L55 cannon. Ammunition of the first stage (7 shots) is in the loading mechanism of the "belt conveyor" type, which provides a high rate of 20 shots per minute.

The FA-50 is the combat version of the T-50, used for strike and reconnaissance operations. The KAI T-50 Golden Eagle is a South Korean supersonic jet trainer and light fighter aircraft developed by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) in collaboration with Lockheed Martin. Poland, a NATO member bordering Ukraine, will buy tanks, howitzers and fighter jets from South Korea, the government announced Friday, as Warsaw bolsters its defenses.

The deal includes 48 FA-50 light combat fighters, 180 K2 "Black Panther" tanks and an undefined number of K9 howitzers, WPolityce quoted Blaszczak as saying.

The first batch of howitzers and tanks will arrive at the end of 2022, and the planes will arrive next year, he said, without giving further details about the deal.

"We are aware of the challenges Poland faces due to the war in Ukraine and the aggressive policy of (Russian President Vladimir) Putin... Our goal is to intimidate the aggressor and strengthen the Polish army as much as possible," Blaszak said.

"We support Ukraine because it fights for us, but we also need to strengthen our own defense capabilities," he said.

Earlier this month, Poland announced it would buy 32 AW149 multi-role military helicopters worth 1.75 billion euros ($1.83 billion) from Italian arms company Leonardo.
