I suspected that the firing spring had weakened from use and might have been the cause. This GLOCK has had 4-5,000 rounds fired since it was purchased new. While that wasn't a lot of firing, it was probably enough to reduce the force of that particular firing spring. There is no recommended schedule for GLOCK spring replacement.

In any case, replacing the ignition pin spring with a new one can stop the errors. No problem, springs are not that expensive.

Something else I noticed while cleaning. The firing spring is held by a two-part plastic cup and the cup is filled with several pieces of metal. The fragments likely originated from truncated primers. The cups can become weak or damaged due to the material in them, so I replaced those as well. It's not expensive either.

Wear safety glasses when doing the work yourself, as some parts are under spring pressure. Make sure the gun is empty and remove the slide. You need to remove the back plate. It maintains spring pressure from the firing pin. The firing pin should be pushed forward of the sleeve. Insert a punch or small screwdriver into the front of the firing pin leg and push it forward (towards the nose) of the spacer sleeve as you move the back plate. The ignition pin can now be removed.
